ALPEN OPTICS Apex XP 1–6x24 Duplex – the perfect optic for my driven hunt and night hunting setup

Test Report – Geartester Review by DerHohlwegrutscher dated 23 December 2025

At this year’s Hunting and Shooting Days in Grünau, I had the opportunity to take an in-depth look at the ALPEN OPTICS Apex XP 1–6x24 Duplex at the Bresser booth. It quickly became clear to me that this scope could be exactly the right choice for my planned driven hunt / night hunting setup. After the staff explained the advantages of the scope to me in great detail, my enthusiasm was strong enough to put the Apex XP straight onto my shortlist.

Optical Quality and Features

One of the first things that catch the eye is the optical performance. The Apex XP delivers an extremely clear, high-contrast, and color-neutral image – even under adverse lighting conditions (the weather in Grünau left, as it seems every year, much to be desired). The field of view of around 38 m is perfectly suited for driven hunts, allowing you to maintain an overview even in fast-paced situations. The duplex reticle is clean, precise, and free of unnecessary gimmicks.

I noticed the Smart Dot technology particularly positively:

The automatic illuminated dot shut-off reacts reliably and prevents unnecessary battery consumption. For me, this is a real added value, because in everyday hunting you no longer have to worry about switching it on and off.

Another highlight, in my opinion, is the FluoDigits technology, which makes the magnification numbers on the zoom ring glow even at night.

Ergonomics & Throw Lever

One detail that immediately caught my eye at the trade fair was the throw lever. Especially when cold fingers or gloves come into play, a smooth-running zoom ring becomes extremely important. The throw lever on the Apex XP is perfectly sized, pleasantly grippy, and allows absolutely intuitive, fast operation. A real must for driven hunts – and ALPEN OPTICS has clearly done everything right here.

Accessory Package – Unusually Comprehensive

What really surprised me was the extensive scope of delivery. The following accessories are already included at no extra charge

  • Flip-up covers
  • Scope protective cover
  • Throw lever
  • Mounting rings

Normally, you would have to buy at least half of these separately. The mounting rings and the throw lever in particular would otherwise have been direct additional expenses. ALPEN OPTICS clearly scores here with a very well-thought-out overall package.

Planned Setup: robust, handy, optimized for night hunting

In the future, the Apex XP will be mounted on my Brenner BR20 Polymer in .30-06 caliber. The combination of the powerful caliber, the robust polymer construction of the rifle, and the deliberately handy configuration without a suppressor is intended to create a setup that proves itself both on driven hunts and during night-time use in the hunting grounds.

The scope will be mounted using Rusan mounting rings (they were already on the rifle, no worries – the mounting rings included in the scope of delivery will also find use, I’m sure :D), supplemented by a MAR adapter for my JSA Nightlux HOGHUNTER 650 thermal clip-on device. The 1–6x magnification was chosen for my personal application:

  • at 1x fast target acquisition on driven hunts and maximum overview at night
  • at 6x sufficient reserves for reliable target identification and clip-on device operation

I personally shoot most game at night at distances between 50–80 m, which is why the maximum magnification of 6x is sufficient for me.

Conclusion

After my first impression at the trade fair, one thing was clear to me:

The ALPEN OPTICS Apex XP 1–6x24 Duplex is a powerful, high-quality scope with excellent optical performance, smart technology, and an exceptionally good accessory package.

For my driven hunt and night hunting setup, it is the perfect addition – high-quality, handy, robust, reliable, and equipped with all the features you actually use in everyday hunting.
